On December 11, 1980, Ettore Sottsass organized a meeting with designers; in 1981 formed a design collaborative named Memphis.
the name comes after Bob Dylan's "Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again"
they drew inspiration from such movements as Art Deco and Pop Art, 1950s Kitsch, and futuristic themes.
