Francis Alys' paintings are enigmatic, naive, like puzzles of everyday life. And I think the paradox lies in that he uses a very simple iconography to throw us off.

green day's nimrod, anybody? i feel as though i want to type something in the white ellipse. does that coincide with alys' theory of creating a puzzle with the paintings? by puzzle, i mean that we feel we have the obligation to sort out the background pieces and to lock in the final piece. the final piece being the face.
