(circa 868), the Diamond Sutra is considered the oldest printed book. the text is a favorite of buddhist scriptures. the printing of this book is expertly carved, the weight and rhythm of the lines are nearly flawless, while the image of the text and the image is harmonious. In the late middle ages, chinese woodblocks were carried east into Korea and Japan and west through the arab world.
